Piano Movers

Dave at work needed to move his piano. So I started my own business so I could get his money. See my flyer/business card/web ad below.

Don't be so scared, Scotty

My parents' dog loses it during thunderstorms. Poor little fella.

He's also scared of cameras and anything located above his head.

Pleasant discovery

I just discovered the webcomic Achewood thanks to NPR's Webcomics: An Annotated Guide for the Understandably Perplexed.

In the article the author talks about Dinosaur Comics (which I have thoroughly enjoyed previously) and other popular webcomics, but this one is new to me. And I love it with a grand, powerful emotion.

The above cartoon is the very first one of the series. I recommend starting with that one (from 2001!) and reading straight through. Because the characters develop over time. You can click on the cartoon above and then just keep clicking "next" to proceed through the strips (and years).

I feel like it was written by me, if I were much more clever and talented.

I'm still in the planning stages of my Great Work; it's still marinating.

I want this

I just made a wishlist at Amazon. I need material goods to feel satisfied in life.

If you ever forget about it and wonder how to get to it, I put it under "My Internets" over there on the right side of this blog. I know many of you have asked "how can I buy you presents with a few clicks of the mouse!!?!?!"

Well, there you are.

Why? Why not.

Jesse and Natalie bought a house. The previous owner was a sort of hack artist who did all sorts of questionable things to the house. Some of them are cool. Most, however, are odd.

This discovery took the cake! And then ate it with bendy forks bolted together that were hidden behind a wall.

I was helping Jesse rip out drywall last Friday night around midnight, you know, a typical Friday night, and we found this. Jesse was totally unsurprised.

It was probably the most interesting thing I had seen that day. And I saw a raccoon holding a magazine just that afternoon, too.

Yeah, I’ve heard she got into drugs. She wrote about it under a pseudonym, Theda Vinchycode. Strangely enough, she called that book Dan Brown as well. I guess she’s in a rut.

It was so wacky, when I got home from work yesterday there was a story on Book Chat about Angelsan DeMons!

She seems troubled. It said her book Dan Brown sold millions but that it wasn’t enough for her to be happy.

I'm interested in things

I began reading The Places In Between by Rory Stewart. It is a not-fiction book about a Scotsman who walks across Afghanistan in 2002. It is interesting so far, because I like reading about adventure and language and culture and history. Mr. Stewart had previously walked through Iran, Pakistan, India and Nepal, too; in some of those places it is potentially dangerous being a Westerner, but he seems to have made it out alive.

I’d like to do something foolhardy and reckless as well, and write a book about it, so people will buy it and I will achieve every human’s life goal: fame and wealth. In fact, I wrote a poem about it this morning. I don’t much like it:

I would like to do something stupid
Then write a book about it
So that bored office workers will pay money to read it

I’m not sure what to do yet. I’m taking suggestions. I’m kind of limited here, because I have a lovely wife and a child on the way, and also a kind family who cares about me (I think some of these adventurist types have lackluster families and/or unfortunate life situations, so they have motive to Get Wild) so I can’t do anything that may get me killed.

If you have an idea, let me know in the comments below.

Oh—I can’t take off too many days from work, I only get a few weeks per year. Also I don’t like birds. And dancing is right out. I’m not a fan of numbers or counting, or shells, either. And I don’t like eating gross things. Most of Western philosophy bores me. And I’m not good at acting. And I don’t care for sticky hands. Other than that I should be good to go.

Post 535!!!

CELEBRATE POST 535!!!!!

Well, we did it everyone, we have reached post #535 (which is this post) here at Laser Blade. What a time it has been, huh? I never expected that this Internet experience would come so far since the first post back in December 2006. But it has, thanks to me, mostly. A little bit you, the reader, but mostly me.

What a ride. I've gone from only a handful of readers to over 15 in just under three years. I've explored my emotions in poems, I've posted delightful and thought-provoking videos, and I've even given some useful advice for you in your life.

Readers came along with me on the journey to super stardom on Here Come the Newlyweds, and were there for the hard crash landing as we were kicked off four weeks in. Laser Blade ratings went through the roof during the Here Come the Newlyweds era, registering a total of 75 pageviews directly attributable to our controversial rise and subsequent fall.

I don't have to tell you, folks--those are HUGE numbers.

So, along with the founding of our country, take some time out to Celebrate Post 535 this holiday weekend.
